Terminalia catappa is a large tropical tree that grows in Asia, Africa and Australia. It has other names such as Indian almond,country almond, tropical almond among others. The seed within the fruit is edible once it is ripe and its taste is similar to an almond and can be have a gritty sandy feel on the tongue with continuous nibbling on the seed. The fruit is about 5-7 cm long and 3-5.5 cm wide. It is has a pale lemon green color and its seed is reddish pink. When ripe, it turns pale yellow and is usually eaten as a snack.
